The Personal Uniform Theory
Style is a language, somewhat of a code. You can tell a lot about a person from what they are wearing. Style is synonymous to identity. The Personal Uniform Theory is rooted in Still Thinking Archive’s Still Method, a process of restoration and returning to self.
A personal uniform is the foundation of your personal style. It is the base you always come back to, regardless of what you build on top of it. Everyone has one. Most people just haven’t named it yet. It could be colors or a specific silhouette. Creating a personal uniform does more for you than building your individual style. What you wear has a direct impact on your neurological responses.
There is a science behind getting dressed. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, your cortisol levels drop and your confidence increases. Research supports that clothing directly affects cognitive performance and emotional state. What makes an outfit good is subjective, and that is the point of your personal uniform. It’s about what you feel best in.
Each day we lose the art of individuality due to uniformity, everyone is too busy trying to mimic an era or too caught up in aesthetics. Which is a part of finding what you like, yes, but who are you without a reference? You should always have an answer. What you wear does not have to be curated if you don’t want it to be. Having a personal uniform just means that you don’t always need to think your way back to yourself. Sometimes, you just need to get dressed.
